How can I apply to be a WaterTight approved builder?

To become a WaterTight approved builder you need to register your interest online, or download a form to complete and send to us.  It takes only a few minutes.

Once we have received your registration of interest we will send you out a full application pack.  As long as you have the necessary information to hand this will only take a few minutes to complete.  You will also need to send in some supporting documents.

To establish your eligibility, the friendly team at Builtin have made the process as simple as possible:
  • Complete the application in full and send it to us in the post along with:

  • A copy of your latest financial statements,  or balance sheet and P&L if you use an in-house accounting package.  If you have been trading for less than 12 months please send us a copy of your budget and/or forecasts instead

  • A copy of your standard building contract

  • Your CV detailing your experience in the industry, in particular in undertaking remedial works

  • Evidence of your qualifications (such as certificates) and attendance at the DBH Weathertight Training Course

  • Any documents necessary to support your “Business & Personal Background Declaration”


Unless we require any further information, or if your documentation is incomplete, it will generally take us no more than 15 working days to approve your application.  You can then display your WaterTight Seal of Approval and begin applying for the warranty!

Applying for the Warranty:
Once you’re approved you can start to apply for the warranty.  If you’re already an approved builder click here to login and apply for a warranty online, or download a copy of the warranty application form. 

Remember, you will need to complete some sections of the document with the homeowner and both of you need to sign it before sending it to Builtin New Zealand in the post.

After Builtin approves the application, it will send you and the owner a Construction Period Certificate and written confirmation that the warranty is accepted.  When the construction and contractual obligations are completed, a Warranty Certificate will be issued.  If you have any questions, or for help completing the application please phone 0800 BUILTIN or email ben@builtin.co.nz.
